What’s Happening at AAAHCT

As Amplify Austin Day continues, we would also like to continue to spotlight our board members. Next is our Executive Director, Marva Overton. Marva is a native of Memphis, TN and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. Marva has experience in Human Resources, but it was her experience as an SAP software consultant at IBM that led to her pivot to positively impact the Black community in Austin and surrounding areas.Marva has led the organization since 2007 and has helped create and advance many of the programs of the org today, including A Better Me, Intergenerational Gardening program, Project Breast Care and more. Marva not only serves as the Executive Director for AAAHCT, but also serves in various capacities across many other organizations, is an active member of the Austin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and a member of Mosaic Church Austin. As we kickoff the Amplify Austin Day campaign, we would like to take the time to introduce and recognize our board members.Next, we have Darrias ThomasDarrias is the Co-Founder of League Creative Group, LLC and has over 15 years of professional video production experience. A 4 time Emmy-Nominated creative, Darrias is also a 2015 Southeast Emmy Award winner.Born and raised in Mississippi, Darrias received a Bachelors of Arts in English in 2010 from the University of Mississippi. Following graduation, he was hired as a videographer/editor for his alma mater, and helped create "The Season." Following his time in Oxford, he moved to Athens, Georgia to produce content for the University Of Georgia. Since 2017, Darrias has resided and served in Austin, Texas, having initially moved to work as a Senior Producer for the University of Texas Athletics.In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, he found himself becoming a full-time freelance content creator and has done so since. He primarily produces content for nonprofits, small & medium sized businesses, and entrepreneurs. As we kickoff the Amplify Austin Day campaign, we would like to take the time to introduce and recognize our board members.Next, we have Shirelle ZacheryShirelle is a native of Detroit, Michigan. She is passionate about helping people become the best version of themselves both personally and professionally. She is a resident of Central Texas. Shirelle has worked over 20 years in various areas of Human Resources as a leader and individual contributor. She has worked in diverse business sectors, which include technology, county government, consulting, nonprofit, banking, telecommunications, and health insurance. She's also been teaching in higher education for over 15 years. She is currently teaching a Leadership and Management course at Austin Community College. She leverages her expertise and dedication to the community in which she resides.Shirelle holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration; a Master of Education; and Master of Human Resource Management.Shirelle's moments of recharge occur when she's traveling, watching HGTV for hours, experiencing new restaurants, spending quality time with family and friends, and of course volunteering in her community.Shirelle's mantra is "live with passion, driven by purpose—every moment, every action, on purpose."You can help Shirelle and AAAHCT continue the work in the Austin Community by donating today at AmplifyATX.org. As we kickoff the Amplify Austin Day campaign, we would like to take the time to introduce and recognize our board members.First we have our Board Chair, E. Nicole ThompsonNicole brings over 20 years of multifaceted experience across the non-profit, private, and public sectors, with a deep specialization in federal grants management. Currently, as the Senior Grants Manager at Sustainable Food Center, Nicole leads the organization’s grant program, expertly handling proposal development, funder prospecting, reporting, and capacity-building efforts. Her extensive background includes a focus on community development, food access equity, workforce training, home ownership, and adult education, particularly for low-income, undeserved, and displaced populations affected by racial and economic disparities.Nicole’s federal expertise was honed during her tenure as a federal grants analyst with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. In this role, she managed a substantial federally funded environmental grant portfolio exceeding $60 million annually. Nicole’s responsibilities encompassed oversight, collaboration with federal, state, and local agencies, and the effective implementation of national environmental legislation and programming.Additionally, Nicole’s commitment to community service is evident through her roles as board chair for the Alliance for African American Health in Central Texas, a mentor with the Huston-Tillotson University W.E.B.
