We’re excited to kick off our second cohort for “A Taste of African Heritage” cooking class series. During this 6 week series, we will go over Traditional Herbs and Spices, Greens, Whole Grains, Beans and Rice, Tubers and Stews, and will wrap up with Fruits and Vegetables. As Amplify Austin Day continues, we would also like to continue to spotlight our board members. Next is our Executive Director, Marva Overton. Marva is a native of Memphis, TN and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. Marva has experience in Human Resources, but it was her experience as an SAP software consultant at IBM that led to her pivot to positively impact the Black community in Austin and surrounding areas.Marva has led the organization since 2007 and has helped create and advance many of the programs of the org today, including A Better Me, Intergenerational Gardening program, Project Breast Care and more. Marva not only serves as the Executive Director for AAAHCT, but also serves in various capacities across many other organizations, is an active member of the Austin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and a member of Mosaic Church Austin. As we kickoff the Amplify Austin Day campaign, we would like to take the time to introduce and recognize our board members.Next, we have Darrias ThomasDarrias is the Co-Founder of League Creative Group, LLC and has over 15 years of professional video production experience. A 4 time Emmy-Nominated creative, Darrias is also a 2015 Southeast Emmy Award winner.Born and raised in Mississippi, Darrias received a Bachelors of Arts in English in 2010 from the University of Mississippi. Following graduation, he was hired as a videographer/editor for his alma mater, and helped create "The Season." Following his time in Oxford, he moved to Athens, Georgia to produce content for the University Of Georgia. Since 2017, Darrias has resided and served in Austin, Texas, having initially moved to work as a Senior Producer for the University of Texas Athletics.In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, he found himself becoming a full-time freelance content creator and has done so since. He primarily produces content for nonprofits, small & medium sized businesses, and entrepreneurs.
